Who we are
Older people
Older people have regular access to social activities and networks and have opportunities to be engaged in lifelong learning tailored to their needs, designed by them and are allowed to exercise their competence, enjoy respect and self-esteem and meet with like-minded people with similar needs. Such as IT, Financial Planning, Craft, First Aid, Welsh etc.
Older people enjoy physical, mental and emotional health and well-being with the aim of being able to live independently for longer with a better quality of life by being able to continue to work and participate in their communities through a range of volunteering opportunities. Through outreach befriending, working alongside other groups running in St Johns Family Centre, sharing skills, experience and knowledge.
Older people have access to information and advice about services and opportunities and are not disadvantaged when accessing them by bringing together relevant agencies to hold drop in clinics and advice sessions, in partnership with Citizens Advice, Benefit Agencies and other Health and Social organisations.
Combating loneliness and isolation by intergenerational activities such as weekly lunch clubs, bringing people together around the table where social attitudes can be changed, all age groups can be accepted and valued as full members of the community in their own rights as well as addressing healthy eating issues that people in the lower socio-economic groups are affected by. We will work in partnership with the local Church food bank.
the reason
Food Co-op
We have a well established food cooperative open to all– to provide locally sourced fresh fruit and veg at a reasonable cost, easily accessible, high quality and seasonal combating rural poverty and the difficulties families have in affording or accessing fresh produce. The main principle behind all community run food co-ops is that by pooling their buying power and ordering food in bulk direct from suppliers, a group of people can buy good food at a more affordable price.

We provide the space, equipment and support for volunteers of all ages and abilities to develop and maintain a gardening club, utilizing their skills and hobbies, sharing their enjoyment, providing opportunities for intergenerational work with older members working with the children’s services and local school, with the added value of growing our own vegetables for the lunch club and cookery classes.
Luncheon Club
We run a Weekly Lunch Club – bringing together the community to promote team building, from setting the table to clearing away and providing intergenerational support to combat isolation and loneliness where people will be able to socialise in a relaxed positive, warm environment. Activities are provided for after lunch.
